THE STORY:

"I was up earlier than usual, drawn by the promise of a sunrise. When I got to the Icebergs pool, there were just two swimmers there, both cutting through the water in their own rhythm, completely at ease in the morning quiet. The ocean was restless that morning, with waves crashing up against the pool wall, sending a misty spray into the air. I found the perfect spot and waited for the right moment. The swimmers paused for a second, standing at opposite ends of the pool, looking out at the horizon as the first light of the sun broke through. The golden light hit the water just right, making everything shimmer like it was glowing from the inside. I snapped the photo. What I love most about that picture is the sense of stillness in it, even with the energy of the waves and the movement of the swimmers. It’s like the world was waking up around them, but for that brief moment, they were completely at peace. Every time I look at that shot, I’m reminded of how perfect that morning felt—just the two swimmers, the crashing waves, and the first light of the day."
